Just got some great news!!!!
Pete is going to China this summer!!!!

I have been accepted to a Fulbright Program in China this summer from July 5 to August 9!

Program description

Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad
Summer Seminar in China

In the summer of 2008, the University of Memphis will be offering a unique opportunity for in-service teachers to study abroad in China.

Teachers selected to participate in this project will learn about the culture of China firsthand by actually studying in China for five full weeks. Participants will travel to exciting and historical places throughout China during this session, learning about Chinese culture so that they can return to their schools and offer an informed perspective on this exciting country to their pupils.

Teachers will be selected from applications received on or before November 15, 2007. Applicants must be currently teaching in a public or private school in Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, or Kansas. Prospective candidates must be able to show evidence that the information learned on the trip can be taken back to the classroom to benefit pupils. In other words, the applicants must teach social studies or foreign language in some capacity at the K-12 level. Spouses, friends or other interested parties may not accompany participants on the session unless they are selected as qualified participants.

Requirements:
Participants will be expected to attend five pre-trip sessions (at times and dates to be announced) prior to departure to China. These sessions are designed to familiarize the participants with the culture, history and geography of China. There will also be a session on how to write a unit plan on China. Other topics presented at the required sessions will be: what to expect when you arrive in China, what to bring on the trip, what types of health concerns one might have, and how to apply for proper travel documents.

Participants will be required to enroll in either a History Seminar in China or ESCI (Geography) 7541 Field Studies in China at the University of Memphis. Participants also will be required to respond to the DOE Fulbright GPA on-line survey after the trip and develop a unit plan appropriate for the grade they teach before receiving credit for the seminar. Although the seminar will be enjoyable, all participants must realize that this is a working project and production of a quality product is expected. The purpose of this seminar is not to vacation in China.

When and Where:

The dates spend in China will be July 5 to August 9, 2008. Participants will visit Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, Chongqing, Xian, and Beijing. There will also be extensive opportunity to visit and explore the Chinese countryside. Participant will also visit a Chinese school appropriate to their grade level.
