Washington, DC
Happy Birthday America! I know total cheese ball. The student had classes this morning until about noon. After lunch we conducted the first ever SPS Olympics. The events were Ping Pong, Billiards, Knock Out (Basketball), quizology, and the relay race. Everyone had fun and no one really took the whole thing to seriously. They needed the break from academic grind.
After getting cleaned up we piled on the bus and headed to see some the Bowie Bay Sox for some baseball. The Bay Sox are the AA farm team for the Baltimore Orioles. Unfortunately the second we began our journey the skies opened up and a deluge began. By the time we arrived in Bowie, MD (about an hour away) the power was out in the city and there was obviously no hope for the game to be played. So we punted and headed back to the dorms. We ordered some pizzas and rented some movies and just hung out.
The movie of choice was High Fidelity starring John Cusack and co starring a hilarious Jack Black. The basic premise of the movie was this record store owners various successes and failures in relationship over the course of his life. The movie was hilarious. However I did not recall the amount of F-Bombs that the movie had. Oh well, it is not the kids have not heard it before. They seemed to like the movie. At 9pm we went onto the grounds to watch the DC fireworks. Even at our distance they were still quite spectacular. The Cathedral grounds are one of the highest elevations in DC so there was quite a crowd to watch them. Luckily for us that not only did the rain end but it cooled the night by about 10 degrees (The baseball game was still cancelled). After some hanging out the kids went to sleep, it was a school night you know. It was a very relaxing day. A good 4th to recharge the batteries.

Went to Steve's house on the 4th and met the real Luca; he told me I was Pete also -- he is a character!
